Description

Day 1: Sofia - Chiflik - Kozya Stena Hut

Transfer from Sofia to Chiflik - 2:30 hours. Hike up the main ridge of the Balkan Mountains. We will explore the century old beech forest of Kozya Stena reserve. When we reach the end of the tree line there are views towards Kozya Stena Peak the emblem of the reserve. A vertical rock phenomenon famous as a place of birds of prey and edelweis.
We will follow the may ridge to the hut. Option to climb Kozia Stena Peak-1670 m or Boba Peak and see an edelweiss (best time is July and August). The area is the only place where the flower grows on the Balkan Mountains.
Accommodation in Kozya Stena Hut - 1560m.

Hiking time: 4:30 - 5 hours (another 2 hours to Kozya Stena Peak);

Ascent 900m

Day 2: Kozya Stena Hut - Ushite Ridge - Sofia

Today we will follow the main ridge direction west to Ushite Peak. The trail is part of a long distance trail E3. We will start the descend to Chiflic following another panoramic ridge that will bring us to the valley of Beli Osam River. The meadows with spring flowers are very impressive in May and June. Option to relax in the hot mineral springs of Chiflik in the afternoon. Transfer to Sofia - 2:30 hours.
